Purpose
The purpose of this documentation is to outline the processes and requirements associated with reporting new hires in the state of Nebraska.
New Hire Reporting
In Nebraska, you are required to report new hires to the Nebraska State Directory of New Hires.
Nebraska Statute 48-2303 requires all employers to submit their new hire reports within 20 days after the employee is hired or re-hired. Employers wh submit reports magnetically or electronically shall submit the reports by two monthly transmissions if necessary, which are not less than 12 days or more than 16 days apart.
Re-hires or Re-called employees: Employers must report re-hires, or employees who return to work after being laid off, furloughed, separated, granted a leave without pay, or terminated from employment within 20 days of re-hire. Termination of employment does not include temporary separations from employment, such as an unpaid medical leave, an unpaid leave of absence, a temporary lay-off of less than 60 days in length, or an absence for disability or maternity.
You'll need the following information for each new hire:
Employee's Name
Employee's Address
Employee's Social Security Number
Employee's Date of Hire
Employee's State of Hire (only if reporting as a multistate employer)
Employer's Name (use the corporate name)
Employer's Address (provide address where Income Withholding Orders should be sent)
Employer's Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). If you have more than one FEIN, please make certain you use the same FEIN you use to report your quarterly wage information when reporting new hires.

Employee's Date of Birth
Employee's State of Hire
Dependent Health Insurance Availability
Employer Phone Number
Employer Fax Number
Employer Email Address
You can report new hires in several ways. The fastest and most efficient way is through the Nebraska State Directory of New Hires website. Once there, click Register.
You also have the option to create your own electronic new hire reports.
You can also fill out the Nebraska New Hire Reporting Form, submit a printed list containing all the required information on the New Hire Reporting Form, or submit a W-4 as a new hire report. Mail or fax non-electronic reports to:
